Course Requirements:

Attendance

Consistent attendance (at both lectures and practical sessions) is advisable. You are here to learn. Attendance may be taken or you may be asked to sign in at the beginning of each class.

***More than two unexcused practical sessions will result in an "F" for the entire course regardless of performance.***

You are responsible for obtaining materials missed during your absence. Handouts (pdf files: assignments, statistical tables, empty protocols etc.) are available with each practice lesson in this web site. It is important that you take notes on what is being discussed at the lessons (in particular at the lectures) in order to get maximum comprehension (aware that Statistics as a subject of study is not very easy to understand for non-mathematically specialised students!). THE EXAM will be based on the lecture material and the textbook Basics of Statistics (author: Bedáňová I.). Therefore, when preparing for the exam, concentrate your efforts on your own lecture notes and this text book. The readings in the rest of recomended books (see Texts and Materials) are meant to assist you in your learning in the case of more difficult subject matters.

As part of being prepared for practical session, you will need to read preceding week lecture ahead of time so that you have some idea of what you will be doing when you come into class and so that you are ready to work in current practical session.

Criteria for Credit Award:

- Attendance at 11 practical sessions (at least) in the course of semester (out of total of 13 possible practices in the semester). Credit practice is compulsory.

- Handover of written work (protocols) from practical sessions.

Exam - Criteria for Pass:

- Credit awarded (see above)

- Theoretical knowledge in the subject Biostatistics: The exam will consist of multiple choice PC test (see Training version of the test ). It is HIGHLY recommended that you run the training test for several times in the course of preparing for your exam. Questions in the test are based on the lectures for the most part (partially also on the practical lessons) and textbook and will cover following subject matter: Range of Exam Questions.

The real exam test will be in a very similar form - there will be total of 30 questions with only one correct choice for answer. You need to earn 15 correct answers (at least) to pass succesfully. Your final letter grade will be computed as follows:

A : 30-27 correct answers

B : 26-24 correct answers

C : 23-21 correct answers

D : 20-18 correct answers

E : 17-15 correct answers

F : 14-0  correct answers

In the case of "F" result, you need to arrange a re-examination date with the examiner (earliest possible re-examination date is 3 days following the unsuccesful exam).
