The Understanding Memorandum

The Understanding Memorandum

In February 2010 the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Toxicology and the Department of Pharmaceutics of the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno (VFU Brno) together with the Institute for State Control of Veterinary Biologicals and Medicines (ÚSKVBL) decided to cooperate in order to form Veterinary Toxicological Database (VETTOX). The database will include information about the toxicity of chemicals and chemical preparations, veterinary medicines, biocides, plant-protective preparations, environmental contaminants and other substances with regard to various animal species.

The aim of the database is to provide veterinary practitioners and professional public with important and validated information about the effects of toxic substances and veterinary medicines as well as about veterinary treatments of poisoned animals and risks that might occur during the treatment due to the use of veterinary medicines. The cooperating institutions will benefit from the access to up-to-date information about the number of poisonings and their causes and about the adverse effects of medicines.

Reported cases will serve to enrich the toxicology and pharmacology lessons at the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno. They will also provide impetus for regulations in the area of veterinary medicines and for further research in the field of toxicology and pharmacology.
