 ANIMAL PROTECTION AND WELFARE

The conference is summoned to discuss pressing problems of protection and welfare of farm animals, companion animals, experimental animals and wild animals, including animals in zoological gardens and handicapped animals.

The conference is addressed to governmental authorities, breeders, veterinarians, scientists, teachers, private sector and non-profit NGOs and anybody who is interested in animal protection and welfare.

The conference is hosted by the University of Veterinary Sciences Brno (Palackeho tr. 1946/1, 612 42 Brno, Czech Republic, http://www.vfu.cz) annually in September/October.

Brno lies in the south-eastern region of the Czech Republic – which itself is in central Europe. The town has a wealth of historical sites and a rich cultural heritage, dating back to its foundation in 1243. The City center is full of historical buildings, old churches, theatres, fountains, sculptures, etc. To name at least a few of them: Špilberk Castle, the famous fortress used as a prison - currently, it's a museum, Petrov Cathedral - its silhouette is the defining feature of the Brno skyline, Old Town Hall, with beloved Brno symbols the Drak (dragon) and the Wheel. The most important example of modern architecture in Brno is The Tugendhat Villa - a historic site inscribed on the UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage List. The Zoological Garden of Brno City is situated in an attractive area of 65 hectares of "Mniší hora" (Monk Hill) forested slopes. In the city centre you can find The Permanent Aquarium Exhibition of freshwater and marine fauna, which also belongs to the Brno Zoo.
