Introduction

Toxicology

Toxicology is the study of the adverse effects of chemicals on living organisms. It is the study of symptoms, mechanisms, treatments, detection and prevention of poisoning. In veterinary medicine we not only consider the afflictions of the animals, but we also study the possibility of intrusion of toxic agents to food chain and environment.

During the course of this pre–clinical subject we try to provide students of both veterinary faculties of our university with as much information about toxic agents as possible. This information includes general info, mechanisms of action, diagnostics, possibilities of therapy and prevention of intoxications. Moreover, there is a big emphasis on practical work, possibility to practice laboratory methods common in toxicological laboratories and the illustration of real intoxications from veterinary practice, mainly in the form of training films.
